Educational Qualification for TNPSC Civil Judge
| Category | Essential Qualification |
| For Practising Advocates/ Pleaders and Assistant Public Prosecutors | 1) Degree in Law AND 2) Must be practising as an Advocate or Pleader for a period of not less than 3 years OR Must be an Assistant Public Prosecutor having not less than 3 years of experience as an Advocate and / or Assistant Public Prosecutor. |
| For Fresh Law Graduates | 1) Must be a fresh Law Graduate possessing a degree in Law 2) Must be eligible to be enrolled as an advocate. 3) Must have obtained the Bachelor‟s Degree of Law within a period of three years prior to the date of notification. |
Eligibility
- Must be a citizen of India;
- Should possess adequate knowledge to read, write and speak in English and Tamil.
Note:- Applicants who do not possess an adequate knowledge in Tamil may also apply. If selected, they should pass the Second Class Language Test in Tamil within the period of probation.

TNPSC Civil Judge Recruitment: Selection Procedure
The selection process comprises three successive stages, viz., (i) Preliminary Examination (ii) Main Examination; and (iii) Viva–Voce Test.
(i) Preliminary Examination (OBJECTIVE TYPE)(OMR METHOD)

- The Preliminary Examination will consist of one paper containing 100 multiple choice questions based on the syllabus
- It will be conducted in the forenoon session. The papers will be set in both English and Tamil and each question shall carry one mark
- 0.25 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
- The duration of the Preliminary Examination will be three hours.
- The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination shall not be counted for determining the final order of merit of the candidates.
(ii) Main Examination (DESCRIPTIVE TYPE)

The question papers on Law Papers I, II and III will be set both in Tamil and English. Except the Translation paper all other papers shall be answered by the candidates either in English or Tamil, but not partly in Tamil or in any other language.
Candidates for Viva-Voce test will be shortlisted from the successful candidates in the Main written examination in the ratio of 1:2 or 1:3 with reference to the number of vacancies
(iii) Viva–Voce Test.
Viva-voce test shall be for sixty (60) marks and candidates of all categories shall obtain minimum 18 marks for a pass in the Viva-voce.
The marks secured by a candidate in the Viva Voce Test shall be added to the total marks secured by him/her in the Main examination.

TNPSC Recruitment 2019: Selection Procedure
Selection will be made in two successive stages i.e., (i) Written Examination and (ii) interview. The final selection will be done on the basis of the total marks obtained by the applicants at the written examination and oral test taken together subject to the rule of reservation of appointments.
